Scheid Tasting Room on Cannery Row Monterey

"Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of intelligent effort." John Ruskin

Al Scheid, the co-founded Scheid Vineyards, has passed his wine growing legacy on to his son, Scott, and daughter, Heidi, who now serve as President and CEO and Senior Vice President of Scheid Vineyards which is today the largest independent producer of premium wine grapes in California. -Despite all their success, they never lose sight of Vin, the iconic image who serves as a constant reminder of the truism that great wine begins in the vineyard. Scheid Vineyards produces small lot, artisan wines from ten estate vineyards in the heart of the Monterey County wine country. These diverse sites span an array of soils, microclimates and sub-appellations, enabling Scheid to unite a broad varietal experience under one label. Only the finest vineyard blocks are chosen and only the best lots are selected for bottling.
All that said, for us wine lovers the most important factor by visiting a tasting room is to enjoy the current offerings, learn something about the different wines, food paring and of course it should be all in a lovely atmosphere. We arrived on a rainy day and the tasting room welcomed us with cosy sitting area, crackling fireplace and friendly staff. Like stylish Carrie who poured us all that delicious wines, had a world of knowledge not only about Scheid Vineyards but wine in general. Which made it more fun and created a positive attitude toward the wines, even the not so loved once.

After tasting 5 from 35 different varietals and filming 3: Chardonnay, a Red Blend and Gewurztraminer we exchanged recipes which we will give you soon, and left with a big happy smile and with a promise for a return. We both agreed that the tasting experience had our full 5 point vote!

Location, location, location. This mantra is never more true than when it comes to grape growing. The right location means everything to the ultimate quality of the wine. Our four distinct growing regions allow us to offer an expansive portfolio of wines, each showcasing the unique character of the grapes and the individuality of the vineyard.
vin_blue REGION 1: Foggy and wind-swept, the cool climate area of northern Monterey County is noted for its long growing season, producing elegant, layered wines of delicacy and balance.
vin_green REGION 2: Located in the heart of the Monterey appellation, the Greenfield region is known for its foggy mornings and windy afternoons, creating a temperate climate credited for producing wines of intense varietal character and well-balanced acidity.
vin_green REGION 3: Wind-sculpted, undulating hills are the hallmark of the San Lucas appellation, a warm growing region tempered by cooling ocean breezes, producing fruit forward and softly-textured wines that linger on the palate.
vin_red REGION 4: Crisp mornings and sultry afternoons punctuate the contrasts of the appellation of Hames Valley, a spirited growing region that yields complex wines with deep aromas, balance and structure.
